India Signals Warm Welcome for Tariq Rahman as Modi Seeks Memorable Visit

High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi says Narendra Modi wants stronger ties, better dialogue and greater opportunities for people and businesses.

Amid continuing tensions, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi spoke about Tariq Rahman’s proposed India visit. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Rahman’s trip to become memorable. According to Trivedi, stronger ties and dialogue can benefit people and businesses. Both nations could gain from improved relations between their leaders.

Tariq Rahman Could Visit Delhi for BRICS Summit

Tariq Rahman may visit India on September 12 and 13. The proposed trip would bring him to New Delhi for the BRICS summit. However, uncertainty surrounds the visit amid renewed tensions between both countries. Bangladesh has demanded the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Trivedi made the remarks during a reception in Dhaka on Tuesday. The Indian High Commission organised the event for Bangladeshi business leaders. A visiting Confederation of Indian Industry delegation also attended the gathering.

According to tbsnews.net, Trivedi discussed Modi’s message about the proposed meeting. He said the Prime Minister wants both leaders to meet. Moreover, Modi assured that Rahman would receive appropriate respect during his India visit.

Trivedi said Modi had given one clear message about the meeting. Both leaders should meet, according to the Indian High Commissioner. He added that Rahman would receive the respectful welcome he deserves.

India Seeks Better Ties Despite Renewed Bangladesh Tensions

Trivedi said Modi wants Rahman’s India visit to leave a lasting impression. He also linked stronger leadership contact with benefits for citizens and businesses. Therefore, he urged both nations to resolve previous disagreements and focus on their future.

Trivedi clarified that forgetting history does not mean ignoring past differences. Instead, both sides should settle those disputes and move ahead. He highlighted shared history and culture between India and Bangladesh. According to him, both countries should build upon those common connections.

Trivedi also discussed Bangladesh’s young population and India’s future plans. He said India wants to work with the “new Bangladesh” for its youth. Bangladeshi young people have experienced considerable struggle and sacrifice, he said. Therefore, ensuring peace and prosperity remains essential for their progress.

Sheikh Hasina’s Remarks Add Fresh Strain to Bilateral Ties

Rahman’s proposed visit comes after another period of tension between both countries. On August 5, Sheikh Hasina held a virtual media interaction from New Delhi. Bangladesh responded strongly after that programme.

Dhaka said the event hurt public sentiments in Bangladesh. Officials also said the development could harm efforts to improve bilateral relations. India’s External Affairs Ministry rejected any involvement in the media programme.

The ministry also clarified another point about Hasina’s remarks. India does not support statements about the Bangladesh government made during that event
