US President Donald Trump’s popularity has reached the lowest point of his current term. A Reuters/Ipsos survey showed only 33% Americans approved his performance. Meanwhile, 64% respondents expressed disapproval. Earlier this month, Trump’s approval rating stood at 35%. Therefore, the latest numbers indicate growing public concerns during his presidency.
Americans Question Decision Behind Iran Conflict
The survey showed that 80% Americans believe US military involvement in Iran could continue for a long period. However, only 16% respondents expected the conflict to end within weeks. Furthermore, just 20% Americans considered the war against Iran a correct decision.
The Iran conflict and rising petrol prices have created concerns for Trump and the Republican Party. These issues could affect their position before the November midterm elections. Meanwhile, public opinion remains divided over economic management. Around 38% respondents trusted Democrats more on handling the economy. In comparison, 35% supported Republicans on the same issue.
Trump’s Campaign Promises Face New Questions
During his election campaign, Trump promised to control inflation. He also assured people that he would avoid prolonged wars. Initially, Trump said the Iran confrontation would end within weeks. However, Iran showed strong resistance during the conflict.
Despite reduced tensions, Iran continued restricting oil trade through the Strait of Hormuz. Consequently, Trump’s earlier promises face fresh scrutiny among voters. The Reuters/Ipsos online survey collected opinions from 1,166 adults across the United States. The poll carried a margin of error of three percentage points on both sides.
Trump Continues Pressure on Tehran
Donald Trump continues maintaining pressure on Tehran. He has kept demanding concessions from Iran. On August 14, Trump said he would soon declare Hormuz as an American territory. He said this step would come after the United States defeats Iran.
Additionally, Trump warned Iran about possible military action. He stated that such action could follow if Tehran fails to reach an agreement. Therefore, the Iran issue remains a major challenge for Trump ahead of future political tests.
