Iran Power Rift Deepens As President Raises Questions Over Supreme Leader Talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says direct communication with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has become difficult amid current conditions.

Iran’s internal power structure faces fresh questions after President Masoud Pezeshkian made a significant statement. He said speaking with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has become difficult. According to Pezeshkian, current circumstances have made direct conversations challenging. Mojtaba Khamenei recently suffered injuries during US and Israeli attacks. The same attack reportedly started a major war in West Asia. His father and former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also died during that attack.

Since then, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly. However, Pezeshkian said his role remains important in Iran’s response.

Pezeshkian Defends Mojtaba Khamenei Amid Speculation

The Iranian president said Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence gives strength to the country. He added that it encourages the government to continue its work. According to news agency AFP, Pezeshkian said communication remains difficult currently. However, he described Mojtaba Khamenei’s presence as a major source of strength. Meanwhile, Mojtaba Khamenei has only released written statements so far. His absence during rising tensions between America and Iran has attracted attention.

Additionally, questions have emerged about his relationship with other senior government figures. His absence from his father’s funeral last month also increased speculation.

Iran President Rejects Claims About Leadership Differences

Pezeshkian rejected speculation surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei’s position. He defended him and shared positive experiences from their meetings.

The president said their discussions remained calm, thoughtful and based on strong reasoning. He claimed current conditions allowed some people to spread incorrect information.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian said some groups were creating a different image of Mojtaba Khamenei.

Reports Claim Internal Political Pressure Within Iran

Reports have suggested growing internal disagreements inside Iran’s political system. Some claims state Mojtaba Khamenei gave a final warning to President Pezeshkian. Those reports also claimed he supported Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Ahmad Vahidi on major war decisions. Israeli Channel 14 cited Tehran sources and claimed Mojtaba Khamenei stopped Pezeshkian from attempting another resignation. The report suggested this removed the president’s strongest political pressure tool.

According to reports, Pezeshkian had earlier threatened resignation several times over government policies.

Dispute Over National Security And Foreign Policy Decisions

Pezeshkian reportedly attempted a formal resignation in May. He alleged his administration faced exclusion from major national security and foreign policy decisions.

However, the reference does not provide further details about the outcome of that attempt.
