A report has created buzz around Team India’s chief selector position. VVS Laxman’s name is reportedly under consideration. According to a media report, BCCI may replace current chief selector Ajit Agarkar with Laxman. However, no official announcement has arrived yet. The extension will reportedly end in September. Earlier, reports suggested another extension until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
BCCI increased chief selector salary three years ago
Before discussing Laxman’s possible earnings, the current salary structure provides context. Ajit Agarkar receives ₹3 crore annually as chief selector. BCCI increased the chief selector salary three years ago. Earlier, the amount stood at ₹1 crore annually. After that revision, Agarkar became the first chief selector under the updated salary structure.
Therefore, if Laxman takes the position, his yearly salary could remain around ₹3 crore. Currently, no report indicates another salary increase for the chief selector role. Laxman currently serves as the head of BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
However, official salary details for his current position remain unavailable.
Laxman also handles Team India coaching duties
Apart from his BCCI role, Laxman also takes coaching responsibilities for Team India. He handles coaching duties when the regular head coach receives rest. During Rahul Dravid’s tenure, Laxman received payment for this role. At that time, Laxman earned around 4.16 percent of Dravid’s annual salary for coaching duties.
Similarly, he may receive a comparable amount during Gautam Gambhir’s period. However, the exact details remain unconfirmed.
