India’s Bangladesh Tour in Doubt as BCCI Confirms Three-Match Afghanistan T20 Series

BCCI has officially announced India’s Afghanistan T20 schedule, making the long-pending Bangladesh visit increasingly unlikely despite no formal cancellation.

Afghanistan announced a three-match T20 series against India on Tuesday. Subsequently, BCCI confirmed the development on Wednesday and released the official schedule. Afghanistan will host all three games during this series. However, every match will take place at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

BCCI said the series forms part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme. Moreover, India will host the complete assignment. Afghanistan has organised several home fixtures here during recent years.

The official announcement has now created fresh uncertainty around India’s proposed Bangladesh tour. That visit already faced difficulties before this development. Therefore, its chances have become considerably lower after confirmation of the Afghanistan series.

Mithun Manhas Pledges Continued Support for Afghanistan Cricket

BCCI president Mithun Manhas also issued a statement regarding the series. He said the board remains committed to promoting cricket in Afghanistan. Additionally, BCCI wants Afghan players to receive opportunities at the highest competitive level.

According to Manhas, cricket between both countries plays an important role in that effort. Regular contests allow teams to face strong opponents and gain valuable experience. Furthermore, BCCI welcomed the Afghanistan Cricket Board to India for this series.

Manhas said both boards would work together towards making the assignment successful. He also expressed confidence that greater cooperation could produce further opportunities. Moreover, BCCI intends to continue supporting Afghanistan cricket. The board also wants stronger relations between both cricket-playing nations.

Bangladesh Tour Remains Uncancelled but Chances Fall Sharply

This year, Bangladesh National Party won the country’s general election. Afterwards, the interim government led by Yunus left office. These developments raised hopes for improved relations between Indian and Bangladeshi cricket boards.

India ranks among the world’s biggest cricket teams. Therefore, hosting the side brings financial benefits for any country.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal had continuously worked towards securing India’s Bangladesh visit. However, that tour has faced repeated delays for a long period.

Importantly, authorities have not officially cancelled India’s Bangladesh tour yet. Nevertheless, the Afghanistan series announcement has significantly reduced its chances. Consequently, the proposed visit now appears increasingly difficult despite lacking formal cancellation.
