India’s Test series against Sri Lanka is approaching soon. Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the squad before the opening challenge. During the team meeting, Gambhir welcomed new additions Saransh Jain and Aqib Nabi. He congratulated both players after their first selection.
However, Gambhir reminded them that the real challenge begins now. He encouraged every player to stay prepared and focused.
Saransh Jain Earns First Test Team Opportunity
After Washington Sundar suffered an injury, Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain received his first Test team call-up. The 33-year-old recently impressed during India A’s series against Sri Lanka A. His performance helped him gain selectors’ confidence.
Saransh claimed six wickets with the ball. Additionally, he scored an important 70-run innings during the series.
Gambhir praised Saransh’s journey and recognised his hard work. He advised him to make his family and country proud whenever opportunities arrive.
After Gambhir’s message, the entire team welcomed both newcomers with applause.
Aqib Nabi Receives India Call After Strong Season
Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Aqib Nabi entered the squad after Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury.
During the previous Ranji season, Aqib delivered an outstanding performance. He collected 60 wickets and became the highest wicket-taker.
Initially, his exclusion from the squad raised several questions. However, he eventually earned his Team India opportunity.
Gambhir appreciated Aqib’s efforts and highlighted his contribution towards Jammu and Kashmir’s Ranji Trophy success.
Furthermore, he congratulated Aqib and expected him to maintain the same performance level.
Shubdeep Ghosh Takes Charge As Fielding Coach
Team India also introduced a change in the support staff. Shubdeep Ghosh became the new fielding coach.
The 57-year-old replaced T Dilip in the role. The change came after concerns over India’s recent fielding standards.
Therefore, the team expects Shubdeep to improve fielding performance. Gambhir welcomed him and praised his experience, passion and energy.
He believed the new coach would help the team achieve future targets.
Gambhir Reminds Team About Upcoming Challenge
At the end of his address, Gambhir reminded players about the importance of the upcoming series. He said every player understands what remains at stake. The team must give complete effort during the challenge. The first Test begins on August 15. Gambhir wants the squad ready with answers in both batting and bowling departments.
