Kerala’s New Chief Minister VD Satheesan: Here’s What You Need to Know About His Assets and Liabilities

Kerala’s new CM, VD Satheesan, declared assets worth ₹3 crore. He carries ₹24 lakh debt, while his wife owes ₹17.45 lakh

On May 14, Congress officially announced VD Satheesan as the new Chief Minister of Kerala. This announcement came after days of discussions within the party. The Congress won in Kerala after a 10-year gap, which triggered the search for a new CM. After internal deliberations, the Congress leadership decided on Satheesan’s name for the position.

Satheesan’s Total Assets

According to PTI, VD Satheesan declared assets worth approximately ₹3 crore in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. His movable assets are valued at ₹53.82 lakh, while his wife’s movable assets total ₹68.45 lakh.

Satheesan’s Property and Debt

Satheesan owns immovable properties, including land, valued at ₹2.42 crore. Meanwhile, his wife’s immovable assets are worth ₹1.85 crore. However, Satheesan’s liabilities also include a debt of ₹24 lakh. His wife, too, carries a loan of ₹17.45 lakh.

The Political Decision-Making Process

After the results of the Kerala Assembly elections on May 4, Congress held multiple meetings to decide on the new CM. On May 7, the Congress Legislative Party meeting authorized the national leadership to pick the new leader. On May 8, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi met Kerala’s top leaders. Along with Satheesan, prominent figures like Veinugopal, Chennithala, and Saty Joseph participated in the meeting.
