Wrong Age On Train Ticket? TTE May Demand Extra Fare During Journey

Entering incorrect age details while booking a railway ticket can create problems during checking, as passengers may face additional charges.

Many passengers carefully fill names, dates and train details while booking tickets. However, some people ignore the age section during the booking process. This small mistake can create trouble during travel.

If the age mentioned on the ticket does not match the identity document, railway officials may question the passenger. In such situations, passengers may face additional fare or excess charges under railway rules.

Wrong age details can create ticket checking issues

Railway rules require passengers to show tickets and necessary documents during travel. Identity documents like Aadhaar cards may also be checked when required.

Under Section 54 of the Railway Act, 1989, authorised railway employees can ask passengers for tickets during journeys. Therefore, passengers should verify every detail before starting travel.

If ticket information and identity documents show different ages, ticket checking staff can raise concerns. However, the exact fee or application of Section 138 depends on the circumstances and railway investigation.

Correct ticket details before starting your journey

Passengers should try correcting age details or other mistakes before the journey begins. A small error during booking can later create a bigger issue during ticket verification.

Checking all information before travelling helps avoid possible disputes. Therefore, passengers should carefully review their ticket details after booking.

Why the ₹7,035 additional charge case gained attention

A post on social media platform X has recently gained attention regarding an age mistake in a train ticket. A passenger claimed that the ticket showed one year instead of 24 years.

According to the passenger, the mistake did not provide any fare benefit. The traveller also claimed having a valid identity document.

However, the passenger alleged that ticket checking staff collected ₹7,035 as an additional amount. The person claimed officials charged it under “WITHOUT TICKET”.

The passenger stated that the total travel cost reached ₹10,624.05 after the extra amount. The traveller questioned the basis of the charge.

The passenger also asked why extra money was collected when correct age details would not change the original ticket fare.
