403 Seats, 403 Crore: Yogi Cabinet Clears Massive Ambedkar Plan

UP government approves monument upgrade across all constituencies before Ambedkar Jayanti, alongside green signal for 25 lakh free tablets

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a major decision affecting all 403 assembly constituencies across the state. The meeting took place on April 7, 2026, Tuesday. Moreover, the Yogi government cleared the proposal ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. Therefore, the decision aims to upgrade memorial infrastructure and improve public utility spaces.

Ambedkar Monument Development Plan

Firstly, the Cabinet approved a proposal for Ambedkar statue improvements across constituencies. The plan includes adding canopies, boundary walls, and beautification work. Consequently, each constituency will see development of ten memorial sites.

The government will spend ₹403 crore for this large-scale initiative. Additionally, each memorial will receive a fixed cost allocation of ₹10 lakh. Therefore, authorities plan uniform development across all 403 constituencies.

Reason Behind the Decision

According to an official press release, many statues lack required legal standards infrastructure. Specifically, several sites miss canopies and boundary protection structures. As a result, statues face weather damage, encroachment risks, and neglect.

Moreover, absence of proper maintenance affects dignity and visual appeal of these installations. Therefore, the government designed this scheme to ensure protection and restoration.

Objective and Timeline

The plan targets statues installed until December 31, 2025. Furthermore, authorities aim to secure and beautify surrounding areas. Consequently, the initiative will preserve cultural and historical heritage effectively.

Additionally, improved infrastructure will make these locations more useful for public engagement. Therefore, the scheme focuses on protection, respect, and accessibility.

Employment and Infrastructure Impact

The government stated that construction work will generate employment opportunities. Moreover, boundary wall construction and site development will support local activity. Therefore, the scheme carries economic as well as cultural benefits.

Tablet Scheme Approval

Alongside this decision, the Cabinet approved a proposal under Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme. The plan includes procurement of 25 lakh free tablets. Additionally, authorities have already distributed 60 lakh smartphones and tablets earlier.

The Industrial Development Department’s high-power committee recommended this proposal. Consequently, the Cabinet granted final approval during the meeting.
