CBI arrested retired High Court judge Giribala Singh, Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law, after several hours of questioning. Moreover, the action came hours after the High Court revoked her anticipatory bail. Furthermore, the CBI team reached her residence on Thursday, 28 May, in Baghmugalia Extension, Bhopal. During this time, heavy police presence secured the area while CBI began investigation preparations including a virtual walkthrough.
Charges Filed Against Giribala Singh
Authorities registered multiple charges against Giribala Singh. These include dowry death under Section 80(2). Additionally, she faces Section 85 for cruelty toward a married woman by a husband or relative, and Section 3(5) for joint criminal liability. Consequently, the legal framework now supports a stronger case against her.
High Court Findings Lead to Arrest
Sources reported that the CBI conducted the interrogation following the High Court’s order, which cleared the way for her arrest. Previously, a lower court had granted Giribala Singh anticipatory bail on 15 May. However, the Advocate General argued she violated bail conditions and did not cooperate with the investigation. Therefore, the MP High Court revoked her bail late Wednesday night.
Evidence Highlighted by the Court
Advocate General Prashant Singh said the High Court noted seven injuries on Twisha Sharma’s body. Moreover, the court determined all injuries occurred before death. Additionally, injuries could not have occurred while handling the body post-mortem. Therefore, the High Court concluded evidence suggested a serious crime.
