‘Don’t Have Time To Watch Video’, Supreme Court On NEET Protest Videos, Why Did Bench Refuse To Watch?

The Supreme Court declined intervention in the Jantar-Mantar police action matter and questioned the need for separate proceedings.

The Supreme Court heard the Jantar-Mantar student protest police action matter on Wednesday. A lawyer raised concerns over the action against students during the movement. The lawyer requested the court’s intervention in the matter. However, the bench led by Chief Justice of India refused to interfere. The court said judicial time should not get wasted on such issues. The bench told the lawyer, “You are wasting your time and ours.”

Lawyer Highlights Student Demands During Hearing

During the hearing, the lawyer explained that students protested for NEET reforms. He also mentioned demands related to dissolving the National Testing Agency. Additionally, the lawyer requested action regarding the police response during the protest.

The CJI-led bench, however, refused separate intervention in the matter. The court noted that the issue did not require fresh involvement through this petition.

Court Refuses To Watch Videos Of Police Action

The lawyer also requested permission to show videos connected with the police action. However, the Supreme Court refused to watch those visuals during the hearing.

The bench clearly said, “We are not interested in watching videos.” Therefore, the court did not examine the footage presented by the lawyer.

Existing NEET Reform Case Already Pending Before Court

The Supreme Court already handles a case related to reforms in the NEET examination system. Earlier, the court had sought responses from the Centre and National Testing Agency.

Therefore, the bench refused separate intervention in the student protest police action matter. The court considered the existing NEET reform case while hearing the request.
