Delhi’s NEET paper leak protests prompted the Supreme Court hearing on Friday, 24 July. The court highlighted that the issue cannot be ignored. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the bench that the government remains serious about students’ interests. He emphasized immediate actions based on the Radhakrishnan Committee’s recommendations. Additionally, the government will take broader steps beyond those recommendations. The Solicitor General requested a week to present detailed information to the Supreme Court.
Court Orders and Future Hearings
The Supreme Court acknowledged the government’s intentions but insisted on thorough monitoring. The next hearing will occur on Monday, 3 August. Previously, the court had denied urgent hearing requests regarding CJP protest actions and Delhi Police measures. Chief Justice Sunil Kant clarified to a lawyer that wasting the court’s time is unacceptable. He criticized social media misreporting that falsely claimed the court refused to list the case. The court confirmed that it only reviewed a representation and did not officially file any documents.
Government’s Commitment to Students
The government has reiterated that fast-track courts will handle paper leak cases swiftly. PM Narendra Modi assured severe punishment for perpetrators. These measures aim to safeguard students’ futures. Moreover, the government directed authorities to ensure timely proceedings and address previous NEET paper leak issues. Students and families affected by previous paper leak incidents will receive attention and appropriate relief.
Clarifications by CJI
The Chief Justice stressed that media misreporting distorted facts. No official filing occurred, and no delays are intended. The court confirmed full oversight of government actions regarding the NEET paper leak. All steps aim to ensure transparency, fairness, and student protection.
