Social activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day indefinite hunger strike after receiving assurances from the government, aiming to address ongoing student concerns.
Government Assurances and Ministerial Meetings
Wangchuk met with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. They assured him of positive government action on pending issues, including cases against peaceful protesters participating in the 20 July Parliament March. The government also promised discussion in Parliament about NEET paper leaks, exam reforms, and potential compensation for families affected by student suicides.
Abhijeet Deepke’s Response
CJP leader Abhijeet Deepke shared a video on social media expressing relief and happiness that Wangchuk ended his hunger strike. He praised Wangchuk’s courage and sacrifice for raising national awareness. Deepke stressed that CJP’s peaceful protests at Jantar Mantar would continue until Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

After ending his fast, Wangchuk explained that he considered the government’s assurances, extended discussions, and potential violence scenarios before deciding. He highlighted that his decision followed long, constructive talks and ensured safety of participants.
Prime Minister Modi’s Reaction
Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised Wangchuk to follow medical advice and recover fully, expressing best wishes for her health after the hunger strike.
