Political discussions have increased around former BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla after changes appeared on his X profile. His updated profile removed the Bharatiya Janata Party mention. However, he continues to describe himself as a lifelong follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Poonawalla reportedly updated his profile on Thursday, but he has not explained the reason behind the change. Meanwhile, BJP and Shahzad Poonawalla have not issued any official confirmation about his resignation. Media reports citing sources claimed that personal reasons led to the reported decision. According to a News18 report, Poonawalla submitted his resignation to BJP leadership. However, no official statement has come from the party or Poonawalla so far. Therefore, the resignation remains unconfirmed at this stage.
Old Videos Show Poonawalla’s Views On Politics
Recently shared videos from Poonawalla’s X account have also added to the discussion. In January 2025, one video showed him explaining the difference between political goals and election goals. He said becoming an MP does not decide a person’s ability to contribute to society or the nation. According to him, people can serve the country through different paths. He also stated that politics should not remain limited to winning elections.
Furthermore, another video showed Poonawalla discussing his decision after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said he had decided to leave active politics after the election. However, he continued working during important elections in West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, and Maharashtra. He said he now feels it is time to move beyond active politics.
From Congress To BJP Journey
Shahzad Poonawalla left Congress in 2017 after raising questions about the party’s organisational elections. Later, he joined BJP and received the role of national spokesperson.
Additionally, he shared older interview clips without captions on X. These videos reflected his thoughts about politics and public life.
At present, discussions about his possible BJP exit continue across social media. However, the final position will become clear only after an official statement from BJP or Shahzad Poonawalla.
