LPG Crisis Twist: Govt Prioritises 5 Kg Cylinders For Workers

Amid LPG shortage, government shifts focus to 5 kg cylinders for labourers while boosting commercial gas supply to states

Due to the Middle East conflict, LPG shortage has increased across the country. Therefore, the government has taken a major decision to manage supply. Moreover, authorities will prioritise 5 kg cylinders for workers. Additionally, this move aims to support labourers facing severe difficulties.

Extra Commercial LPG Allocation Announced

Meanwhile, on March 21, the government increased commercial LPG allocation significantly. Moreover, authorities decided to provide 50 percent additional commercial LPG to states. Additionally, the Petroleum Ministry Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma shared this update on March 23.

Panic Booking Shows Decline

Furthermore, Sujata Sharma stated that panic booking of LPG has reduced recently. Moreover, she explained that around 35 lakh domestic and commercial LPG connections were issued or activated within three weeks. Therefore, supply conditions have started stabilising gradually.

Supply Situation Remains Under Watch

Meanwhile, Sharma confirmed that retail outlets currently operate normally across regions. However, she added that LPG supply still remains a concern. Moreover, distributors do not face immediate shortages at present. Therefore, distribution continues without major disruptions.

Commercial Supply Expanded Across States

Additionally, authorities increased commercial LPG supply for states and union territories. Moreover, the government advised states to prioritise essential sectors. These sectors include restaurants, dhabas, hotels, industrial canteens, food processing units, and dairy operations.

Furthermore, authorities asked states to include subsidised canteens and community kitchens. Additionally, migrant workers will receive support through 5 kg FTL cylinders.

Distribution Progress Across Regions

Meanwhile, around 20 states and union territories have already received commercial LPG allocations. Moreover, authorities have distributed nearly 15,800 tonnes of commercial LPG so far. Therefore, supply efforts continue expanding across multiple regions.
