An IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Chennai Airport late Tuesday, August 11. The aircraft had travelled from Kolkata towards Chennai. Reports said the engine developed trouble during the final landing phase. Therefore, authorities decided on an emergency landing. The flight carried 224 people, including crew members.
According to available information, the left engine developed a fault just before touchdown. Consequently, Chennai Airport declared a full emergency. The sudden development created panic and concern among people at the airport.
Airport Authority of India officials identified the aircraft as IndiGo flight 6E-723. The service carried 224 people from Kolkata to Chennai. According to officials, the flight made an emergency landing at 11:29 pm on August 11. Its scheduled arrival time stood at 11:30 pm. However, while preparing to land, the pilot detected trouble with the left engine.
ATC Coordinates Safe Touchdown After Pilot Reports Fault
The pilot immediately informed Air Traffic Control about the engine problem. Subsequently, airport authorities activated emergency measures for a safe landing.
The aircraft safely touched down on Runway 25 at 11:37 pm. All 224 people aboard remained safe after landing. Moreover, authorities reported no injuries from the incident.
Around ten minutes later, officials withdrew the full emergency at 11:47 pm. Airport authorities said normal operations at Chennai Airport faced no disruption afterwards. Therefore, other flight movements continued normally.
Meanwhile, officials have started examining the reason behind the engine malfunction. The investigation process currently focuses on identifying what caused the fault.
Earlier Air India Flight Faced Turbulence Near Jharsuguda
Before this incident, an Air India flight encountered turbulence on August 4. That aircraft was travelling from Phuket, Thailand, towards Delhi. The turbulence injured 17 people, including crew members.
The incident occurred near Jharsuguda in Odisha. At that time, the Airbus A320 flew at nearly 36,220 feet. However, the aircraft later landed safely in Delhi.
Authorities are currently investigating that turbulence incident as well.
