Pakistan Plays Peace Broker Drama While India Quietly Resets Regional Equations

After ceasefire optics, Pakistan hosts global leaders, while India builds ties with Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and UAE to reshape regional balance

Pakistan, despite internal instability, now positions itself as a peace mediator between America and Iran. Moreover, after the ceasefire, Islamabad prepares to host leaders from both nations. Consequently, Pakistan calls this move a major diplomatic success and praises its own role. Meanwhile, India adopts a different approach and reshapes its regional engagement strategy.

India Expands Outreach Towards Pakistan’s Close Allies

Instead, India builds stronger ties with countries closely aligned with Pakistan. These nations include Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. While India already maintains stable relations with UAE, Bangladesh ties recently saw fluctuations. Specifically, Sheikh Hasina’s exit created uncertainty in bilateral engagement.

Bangladesh Visit Signals Reset In Bilateral Relations

Therefore, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman visited India and met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. During the meeting, Jaishankar expressed India’s intent to strengthen bilateral cooperation further. Additionally, both leaders discussed moving beyond tensions from Bangladesh’s interim government period.

Furthermore, this visit marked the first high-level engagement after BNP formed government following February elections. Jaishankar later shared that discussions covered multiple aspects of cooperation and global developments. Both sides also agreed to remain in close contact going forward.

Turkey Talks Resume After Years Of Diplomatic Strain

Similarly, India and Turkey restarted efforts to restore diplomatic relations. On April 8, officials conducted the 12th round of Foreign Office Consultations in Delhi. Notably, this meeting occurred four years after the previous round in Ankara during 2022.

However, tensions persisted earlier due to Turkey raising Kashmir issues and supporting Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. As a result, both countries now attempt to rebuild trust through structured dialogue.

Azerbaijan Relations Improve After Strategic Assistance

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan, traditionally aligned with Pakistan, extended crucial help during the Middle East crisis. Specifically, Azerbaijan facilitated evacuation of 215 Indians stranded in Iran. India expressed gratitude during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Ambassador Abhay Kumar.

Previously, Azerbaijan openly supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, which triggered backlash in India. Consequently, social media campaigns called for boycotts, causing travel bookings to decline sharply.

UAE Visit Highlights India’s Strategic Priorities Ahead

Finally, S Jaishankar will visit UAE from April 11 to 12 to deepen strategic cooperation. During the visit, he will review bilateral ties and strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership. Additionally, discussions will focus on regional stability after the US-Iran ceasefire.

Importantly, key priorities include securing energy flow through the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring safety of Indian citizens. Therefore, while Pakistan showcases diplomacy publicly, India quietly strengthens long-term regional positioning.
