IMD Rain Alert: Heatwave Relief Near as Storms Leave Trail of Damage

IMD has warned of heavy rain from 28 to 30 May across UP, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, hill states, and eastern regions after recent storms caused deaths, fires, and disruption.

Uttar Pradesh continues to face intense summer heat, and Banda has recorded the harshest conditions recently. However, the weather has already turned dangerous in several districts. During the last two days, storms and rain caused heavy loss of life and property in Lakhimpur, Gonda, and Sitapur. Sadly, eight people died in separate accidents across these districts. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a rain alert from 28 to 30 May for UP and several northern regions.

Storms Cause Deaths, Fire, and Disruption

Several districts witnessed severe destruction during the storm. In Lakhimpur, Gonda, Sitapur, and nearby areas, strong winds knocked down house walls. Moreover, reports also mentioned flying tin sheds in many places. In Lakhimpur’s Karibderi village, fire destroyed 40 houses during the storm. As a result, panic spread among residents. Several people also suffered injuries during these incidents. Additionally, strong winds uprooted trees and damaged electric poles. Consequently, many villages faced power cuts after the storm.

Railway Route Hit in Gonda

The storm also disrupted rail movement in Gonda. A tree fell on the Mankapur-Ayodhya rail route during strong winds. Therefore, the track faced obstruction, and authorities diverted several trains. Passengers then faced major difficulty due to route changes. After the storm weakened, railway workers cleared the route. Soon after that, trains started moving again. Meanwhile, heavy rain, strong winds, and storm activity damaged farmers’ crops badly. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the situation across the state.

Relief Measures and Rain Warning

The Chief Minister directed officials to speed up relief and rescue operations. He also promised every possible support for affected families and farmers. Meanwhile, IMD issued a heavy rain alert from 28 to 30 May. The warning covers Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Apart from this, rainfall may also occur across north-eastern states. During this period, some states may see dust storms and hailstorms as well.

Western Disturbance May Change Weather

According to the weather department, people may see heavy rain after waiting just one more day. Once again, a Western Disturbance is entering several states. Therefore, weather conditions may change suddenly. This system is moving from the Bay of Bengal through eastern India toward northern India. IMD also stated that cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana may trigger strong rainfall from 28 May evening.

Heatwave Relief Expected Soon

The expected rain may make the weather pleasant across several regions. Moreover, temperatures may fall sharply after widespread showers. This drop can bring major relief from the ongoing heatwave. However, the recent storm damage also shows the risk attached to sudden weather changes. Therefore, people across affected states will closely watch IMD updates till 30 May.
