India will increase passport fees from July 1, 2026. Moreover, this marks the first revision in nearly 14 years. Consequently, applicants will face higher costs across all categories. Additionally, increases apply to fresh, renewal, and replacement cases.
New fee structure raises costs across categories
Adults aged 18 and above will pay revised charges. For 36-page passports, normal processing will cost 2500 rupees. Earlier, this fee stood at 1500 rupees. Meanwhile, Tatkal 36-page passports will rise to 5000 rupees.
Higher charges for 60-page and Tatkal passports
Normal 60-page passports will now cost 3500 rupees. Earlier, applicants paid 2000 rupees for the same category. Similarly, Tatkal 60-page passports will rise to 6000 rupees. Thus, premium processing becomes significantly costlier.
Changes also impact damaged and minor passports
Damaged or lost 36-page Tatkal passports will cost 7000 rupees. Previously, this fee stood at 5000 rupees. Additionally, minors will also face revised pricing. For example, normal 36-page minor passports will rise to 1750 rupees.
Tatkal minor category sees sharp increase
Minor Tatkal 36-page passports will now cost 4250 rupees. Earlier, applicants paid 3000 rupees. Hence, every segment experiences upward revision. However, passport validity rules remain unchanged.
Validity rules remain the same
Standard passports stay valid for 10 years. Meanwhile, minors’ passports remain valid for 5 years or until age 18. Therefore, whichever comes first applies.
