BJP has turned the West Bengal Assembly election into a major political upset for ruling TMC. Meanwhile, counting continues on 294 seats across the state. Also, early trends have already given BJP a majority. Therefore, the latest figures suggest Bengal may witness history this time.
For years, BJP could not breach Bengal’s political fortress. However, that wall now appears to crumble. Still, this victory has not come suddenly. Behind it stands Amit Shah’s long planning and sharp strategy. Many in BJP call him the party’s “Chanakya.” Moreover, this effort began after the 2014 Lok Sabha election win.
2014 Meeting Set Bengal As A Future Target
In 2014, Amit Shah handled Uttar Pradesh for BJP. The party scored a strong victory there. Soon after that win, BJP held its first major meeting. In that meeting, Shah said the party’s next big target should be West Bengal.
BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said this Bengal win did not happen by chance. Instead, he called it the result of 12 years of planning and hard work. He also shared inside details from the party’s 2014 Lok Sabha victory phase.
According to Trivedi, BJP discussed preparations for the 2019 election after its 2014 win. Rajnath Singh, then Home Minister, also attended that meeting. During that discussion, the party selected Odisha and Bengal as future victory targets.
Trivedi added that the meeting focused on states where BJP could increase seats. “Those two states were Odisha and Bengal,” he said. Moreover, leaders decided that BJP needed intense work there. Trivedi said Rajnath Singh himself told him this detail.
BJP Grew From Zero Presence To Major Force
In the 2011 West Bengal election, BJP had virtually disappeared from the state. However, the party won three seats in 2016. That result boosted its morale. Also, BJP received 10% votes that year.
After that, BJP grew sharply in 2021. The party reached 77 seats. Moreover, its vote share rose to 38%, or nearly 40%. Therefore, BJP’s current rise follows a steady political climb across three elections.
Amit Shah and his team built the wider Bengal strategy through ground-level work. They focused on details instead of only public rallies. As a result, BJP’s historic lead now reflects a deeper organisational plan.
Shah’s 15-Day Bengal Stay Sparked Political Heat
When Amit Shah announced his 15-day stay in West Bengal, political uproar followed. TMC questioned that move sharply. It asked whether BJP’s condition looked so weak. TMC also asked why India’s Home Minister needed to sit in one state for so many days.
However, BJP’s view remained different. According to the party, Shah stayed not just for campaigning. Instead, he stayed to build a solid strategy. BJP said Shah spent more than 18 hours daily on election planning. Also, his plan carried fine details about every booth.
During those 15 days, Shah did not only campaign. He also created a full-proof plan. BJP believes that plan changed the election’s direction. Therefore, his Bengal stay became a central part of this result.
Central And Local Teams Worked Together
Bhupender Yadav had camped in West Bengal continuously since last September. Meanwhile, BJP made Sunil Bansal the special in-charge for this election. Amit Malviya had also worked firmly in Bengal for the last five years.
The local and central teams worked with strong coordination. Amit Shah led the central team. Meanwhile, Bengal’s local team included Suvendu Adhikari. Together, both units built a strong campaign structure.
This teamwork and Shah’s strategy delivered a result many people did not expect. Therefore, BJP now appears close to achieving its long-pending Bengal goal.
Vajpayee’s 1980 Dream Looks Close To Reality
Some BJP leaders also connect this Bengal moment with Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s old dream. They say Vajpayee first imagined BJP’s Bengal victory. In 1980, a major party session took place.
At that session, Vajpayee said the lotus would bloom from the Arabian Sea to Gangasagar. That was his imagination for the party’s future. Now, that 1980 statement appears to move closer to reality in Bengal.
