During ongoing CJP protests at Jantar-Mantar, Delhi authorities closed 16 metro stations citing security concerns, escalating public inconvenience. SCBA President Vikas Singh raised this issue before Chief Justice Sunil Kant, highlighting impacts on lawyers and registry staff. He requested immediate reopening measures, explaining closures affected official access and workflow. The CJI emphasized urgency, stating that if authorities do not act by lunchtime, the court will intervene, ensuring timely solutions.
List of Metro Stations Closed by DMRC
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed closures across 16 stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, ITO, and Khan Market. Other affected stations are Lok Kalyan Marg, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Indraprastha, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. DMRC clarified that limited rerouting options are available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations for passenger convenience.
Court Orders Protect Judicial Processes During Shutdown
CJI Sunil Kant directed that no adverse orders be passed due to absent personnel or procedural delays, while stressing that authorities must respond before lunch. The court underlined judicial oversight as essential to maintaining law and order and ensuring public access during politically sensitive demonstrations. Delhi’s ongoing CJP protests at Jantar-Mantar contributed to heightened security and prompted strict monitoring of all metro operations.
