The operation began on Saturday in Chanapora. Police, Army, and CRPF teams launched the search together. Furthermore, security forces engaged terrorists during the operation. Later, troops recovered a terrorist’s body from a cowshed area.
Officials identified the deceased terrorist as Lashkar-e-Taiba’s top commander Zakir Ghani. The encounter marked a significant achievement for security forces.
Police Recover Weapons And Continue Search Operation
Authorities recovered weapons and ammunition from the encounter site. Moreover, security forces continued searching and sanitising the area. Jammu Kashmir Police posted on their official X account, “You can run, but you cannot hide.”
The police stated that SOG Shopian, 55 Rashtriya Rifles, and CRPF conducted the joint operation. Consequently, forces neutralised a Lashkar terrorist during the mission.
Search Operation Continues For Remaining Terrorist
Security forces heard firing sounds during the extensive search operation. Therefore, they immediately launched a counter response. The exchange of fire continued briefly during the encounter. Later, forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the site.
However, authorities continue checking the area to ensure no other terrorist remains hidden. Zakir Ghani had another Lashkar terrorist, Latif, with him. Currently, Latif remains absconding, while security teams continue their search efforts.
