No Escape Now, Delhi Govt Orders Daily Biometric Attendance, What Triggered This Sudden Crackdown?

After surprise inspection exposed delays, Delhi government enforces strict biometric attendance for every employee while restoring normal office timings

Delhi government took a major step to ensure timely work in offices. Moreover authorities made biometric attendance mandatory for every employee across departments. This rule applies equally to junior staff and senior officers. The decision followed a surprise inspection by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. During inspection several employees did not reach office on time. Therefore the government introduced this strict order.

Office Timings Return to Normal

Meanwhile the government announced restoration of normal office timings across departments. Earlier pollution and GRAP measures had changed working hours. However after GRAP removal authorities reinstated previous schedules. Now MCD offices will operate from 9 am to 5:30 pm daily. Similarly Delhi government offices will run from 9:30 am to 6 pm.

Biometric Attendance Mandatory Everywhere

Furthermore the government directed installation of biometric machines in every department. Offices with existing machines must ensure they remain functional. Authorities will record employee names positions and attendance details in systems. Attendance will count only through biometric machines now. Additionally senior officials including secretaries and department heads must follow this rule. No exemption will apply to any employee or officer.

Daily Monitoring and Strict Action

Meanwhile senior officers will review attendance records every day. Authorities will act against late arrivals early departures and missing attendance. Moreover departments must send attendance reports of senior officials to the Chief Secretary by noon daily. Afterward officials will submit monthly reports to the Chief Minister. These reports will detail arrival and departure timings of every officer. Authorities may take departmental action against unjustified delays.

Complaints Led to Tough Decision

Meanwhile the government acknowledged long standing complaints about delays in offices. Many employees reportedly arrived late or left early regularly. Consequently public work often faced delays and long waiting times. Citizens sometimes waited for hours for basic services. Therefore authorities decided to enforce stricter discipline measures.

Return to Pre-Covid System

Earlier many offices stopped biometric attendance after the Covid period. Additionally pollution and GRAP restrictions altered working hours temporarily. However conditions improved and authorities restored previous systems and timings. The government believes biometric attendance will improve discipline and efficiency. Moreover Chief Minister Rekha Gupta clearly warned against any negligence in offices.
