A 19-year-old biotechnology student from Tripura has alleged a horrific assault by her live-in partner in Gurugram. The survivor remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. In her statement to the Gurugram Police, she alleged that the accused poured sanitiser on her private parts and set it on fire. She further claimed that he struck her head with a metal bottle and smashed it against household furniture. Moreover, she alleged that he attacked her with a knife during the incident.
According to her complaint, the violence continued for three consecutive days. She also alleged that the accused forced physical relations on her under the pretext of marriage.
Argument Over Marriage Plans Escalated
Police stated that the assault began on February 19 after a late-night argument. The dispute reportedly centred on their marriage plans. Preliminary findings indicate that the disagreement quickly escalated into extreme violence. Medical examinations have confirmed that the woman sustained multiple severe injuries.
Authorities identified the accused as Shivam, 19, a resident of Delhi. Police arrested him and produced him before a court. Subsequently, the court sent him to judicial custody. Meanwhile, officers continue to examine evidence and statements.
Relationship Began Through Dating App
Investigators revealed that the woman met Shivam through an online dating app in September 2025. Months later, she moved in with him in Sector 69, Gurugram. Marriage discussions had reportedly begun between both families. However, tensions allegedly surfaced in recent weeks.
The survivor’s mother said she remained unaware that her daughter lived with the accused. She told police that her daughter called her during the assault and pleaded for help. Consequently, she alerted authorities, leading to swift police intervention.

Medical Emergency and Hospital Transfers
Gurugram DCP (South) Hitesh Yadav confirmed that doctors first admitted the survivor to a government hospital in Gurugram. Due to the seriousness of her condition, doctors later shifted her to AIIMS. Subsequently, she was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced treatment.
Doctors are currently monitoring her condition closely. Medical reports have documented multiple severe injuries consistent with her allegations. Police stated that they will rely on detailed medical findings to strengthen the case.
FIR Registered Under Multiple Sections
Police have registered an FIR under several sections of law. These include section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt. Authorities also invoked section 118(1) for causing hurt by dangerous weapons. Additionally, section 127(2) addresses wrongful confinement.
Police applied section 69 for sexual intercourse by deceitful means or false promise of marriage. Furthermore, officers added section 351(2) for criminal intimidation. However, the survivor’s mother has demanded that police also include charges of rape and attempt to murder.
Investigators stated that they are examining whether additional sections apply based on medical evidence. Therefore, further legal action may follow as the probe progresses.
Police are currently gathering forensic evidence from the residence. Officers are also questioning neighbours and collecting digital records. Moreover, investigators are reviewing communication between the couple.
Authorities emphasised that they will conduct the investigation thoroughly and without delay. Meanwhile, they assured the family that they will pursue justice under due legal process.
Broader Concerns Raised
The incident has once again sparked debate about intimate partner violence. Many observers have pointed to the vulnerability of young individuals living away from home. Furthermore, the case highlights the risks associated with unchecked aggression in personal relationships.
However, police reiterated that they will focus strictly on evidence. They stated that public speculation will not influence the investigation. Instead, they will rely on medical reports, witness accounts, and forensic findings.
The accused remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, doctors at Safdarjung Hospital are providing intensive care to the survivor. Her family has urged authorities to ensure strict punishment if allegations are proven.
Police confirmed that they will submit additional reports to the court as evidence emerges. Furthermore, they will reassess the charges if medical findings warrant stronger legal provisions.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the allegations. Nevertheless, investigators continue their work under established legal frameworks. As the survivor battles for recovery, authorities have pledged swift and decisive action.
