The INDIA alliance began a march from Parliament towards the Election Commission office. However, police placed barricades and stopped the procession midway. Following the blockade, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi sat near the barriers in protest. Opposition MPs also started demonstrating at the same location. Later, Rahul Gandhi climbed the barricades and waved the Tricolour.

Senior opposition leaders join the protest
Several prominent opposition leaders and MPs joined the march. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge participated alongside Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also joined the demonstration. Moreover, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee took part with other opposition leaders.
The INDIA alliance had held a meeting in Delhi on September 30. After that gathering, the bloc announced this march. Before starting, participating MPs assembled at Parliament’s Makar Dwar around 10:30 am. Subsequently, they began moving towards the Election Commission office.
Rahul Gandhi posts message targeting Gyanesh Kumar
Meanwhile, police prevented opposition MPs from moving further. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi then sat on the ground near the barricades. During the protest, Rahul shared a social media post. He wrote, “Gyanesh, its done, bro.Time to resign”.
Tensions also rose between police personnel and participating leaders. Afterwards, Rahul Gandhi climbed onto the barricading. From there, he waved the Tricolour while protesters continued slogans against Gyanesh Kumar.
Protest follows concerns over SIR and Election Commission
INDIA bloc leaders marched over issues concerning SIR and the Election Commission. Their protest moved from Parliament towards the Commission’s office. Police tightened security arrangements during the demonstration.
However, AAP and DMK did not join the march.
Police briefly detain Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi
During the INDIA alliance protest, police detained Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for some time. Later, officers released both leaders.
The protest continued after police stopped the march from advancing towards the Election Commission office.
