Students protesting in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi are marching towards the state Assembly. Meanwhile, JLKM’s Devendranath Mahato joined the demonstration after fasting for nine days. He travelled by ambulance while participating in the Assembly march. During the procession, Mahato also carried a photograph of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren.
Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijit Dipke has also extended support to the protesting students. He shared a video featuring Devendranath Mahato on X. Deepke wrote, “We stand in solidarity with the students of Jharkhand!” Moreover, CJP continues supporting the ongoing protest. Its representatives have also joined the agitation.
Protesters Break Barricades as Police Use Water Cannons
Meanwhile, demonstrators broke through several barricades while moving closer towards the Jharkhand Assembly. Police used water cannons during the confrontation. However, protesters continued raising slogans while carrying the Tricolour and placards supporting their demands.
Officials said authorities imposed prohibitory orders during the students’ march. Furthermore, security forces covered the entire route, stretching nearly four kilometres. Senior officials also maintained close supervision throughout the procession.
Authorities deployed more than 1,500 personnel for security arrangements. The deployment included Rapid Action Force, Indian Reserve Battalion, district police, and QRT personnel.
Students Refuse Compromise Without CBI Investigation
Officials said authorities closed most schools across the city during the protest. Meanwhile, the government held several rounds of discussions with demonstrators. However, those talks failed to break the continuing deadlock.
After the latest round, authorities claimed they had accepted 98 percent of protesters’ demands. Nevertheless, demonstrators challenged that assertion.
According to protesters, they demanded cancellation of 13 examinations. However, they said the government agreed to cancel only three.
JPSC-JSSC Reforms Forum leader Ravindra Paswan maintained a firm position on the investigation demand. He said, “We will not accept any compromise until our demand for a CBI investigation is fulfilled.”
Therefore, the Assembly march continues amid strong security arrangements and unresolved demands. Protesters remain focused on securing a CBI investigation before accepting any settlement.
