PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme Gives Students Collateral-Free Education Loans

PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme helps eligible students access higher education loans without guarantees or property security, while offering interest benefits

The central government’s PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme helps students continue higher education despite financial challenges. The scheme provides education loans without guarantees or property security. Additionally, eligible students receive interest benefits and credit guarantee support for easier loan access. The initiative aims to reduce financial barriers for talented students.

The government launched this scheme according to the goals of National Education Policy 2020. It focuses on ensuring money problems do not stop deserving students.

Furthermore, the complete application process remains digital. Students can apply for loans from different banks through one common portal.

What Is PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme?

PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme is a central government education loan programme. It supports students studying in recognised higher education institutions.

Under this scheme, students can receive loans without providing collateral or keeping assets as security. The initiative helps students who secure admission through merit.

However, some students struggle to manage college fees and other expenses. Therefore, the scheme provides financial assistance for higher studies.

Students Get Loans Without Guarantee Or Property Security

The biggest advantage of this scheme remains its collateral-free loan facility. Students do not need any guarantor for education loans. Moreover, banks do not require land, houses, or other assets as security. This makes higher education easier for students from financially weaker families. Under the scheme, the government provides 75 percent credit guarantee on education loans up to ₹7.5 lakh.

Therefore, if students cannot repay loans due to certain reasons, the government covers a major share of bank risks under rules.

This support helps banks provide loans without traditional security requirements.

Interest Subsidy Benefits Under The Scheme

The scheme also provides interest subsidy benefits based on family income. Families earning up to ₹8 lakh annually can receive benefits. Such families get a 3 percent interest subsidy on education loans up to ₹10 lakh. Meanwhile, families with annual income up to ₹4.5 lakh receive full interest subsidy benefits under prescribed conditions.

The government aims to support a large number of eligible students every year through this facility.

Who Can Apply For PM Vidyalaxmi Loan?

Students admitted through merit in quality institutions selected under NIRF can apply for this scheme. The scheme covers eligible students from recognised institutions. Additionally, students from top NIRF-ranked institutions can access the benefit. Eligible students from state government institutions ranked 101-200 can also apply. Students studying in central government institutions can also use this facility. However, loan eligibility does not depend on family income limits.

The interest subsidy benefit applies only to families meeting specific income criteria.
