Trump Leaves Pakistan Out of Iran Talks as Gulf Nations Take Centre Stage

Donald Trump mentioned Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar during Iran discussions but avoided Pakistan’s name, creating questions over Islamabad’s role.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif faced another international setback during US-Iran discussions. American President Donald Trump mentioned Gulf nations but skipped Pakistan.

For months, Pakistan tried presenting itself as a possible mediator between America and Iran. However, Trump’s latest statement changed expectations around Islamabad’s role.

Trump names Gulf nations during Iran discussions

Donald Trump said Iran initiated talks and discussions about a possible agreement continued. During his statement, he mentioned countries supporting the process.

Trump highlighted Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. However, he did not mention Pakistan during the discussion.

The US President said, “We are talking. We are talking at Iran’s request.” He added that Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar had roles.

Therefore, Trump’s remarks became a setback for Pakistan. Islamabad had attempted to establish itself as a mediator between Washington and Tehran.

Meanwhile, Pakistan also worked towards improving relations with America. Despite these efforts, it did not receive significant importance.

Questions rise over Pakistan’s mediation role

Both America and Iran remain uncertain about Pakistan’s position. Iran had earlier questioned Pakistan’s policies and close US relations.

Additionally, some senior American leaders and lawmakers raised concerns about Pakistan’s reliability. Former US Senator Lindsey Graham also made serious comments earlier.

Graham claimed Iranian military aircraft were present at Pakistani airbases. His statement attracted significant attention at that time.

Trump warns Iran over nuclear agreement

Some reports also claimed Pakistan played a role in weapons supply between China and Iran. According to these reports, Pakistan helped transfer Chinese air defence systems to Iran.

These developments raised questions about Pakistan’s neutral position. Meanwhile, Trump delivered another warning message to Iran.

Trump said Iran might have its final opportunity to accept a nuclear agreement. He warned that rejection could bring serious consequences.

During a White House interaction, Trump said several regional countries requested talks with Iran. He added that failure could worsen the situation.

Trump said, “I think maybe we can achieve something.” He added that he wanted to give Iran one final chance before destruction.

However, Iran denied any formal talks with America. Therefore, tensions and agreement possibilities between both countries remain unclear.
