Air India’s Phuket to Delhi flight faced severe turbulence on Tuesday, August 4. The aircraft suddenly moved downward for some time during the journey.
The flight later regained control and continued safely towards Delhi. Flight AI-2379 faced turbulence that injured 12 passengers and crew members.
Flight lands safely after unexpected turbulence
According to Air India, the aircraft landed safely at Delhi airport. All passengers and crew members exited the aircraft safely.
The airline confirmed that no person suffered serious injuries. However, some passengers and crew members received minor injuries.
As a precaution, officials sent them to the airport medical centre. Air India’s medical team examined and assisted those affected.
The flight carried 134 passengers from Phuket to Delhi. According to airline sources, the aircraft faced clear air turbulence before landing.
Clear air turbulence creates sudden aircraft movement
Clear air turbulence causes sudden jolts in a clear sky. It occurs without clouds, rain, or storms around the aircraft.
Therefore, pilots find it difficult to identify such turbulence beforehand. The sudden air movement caused strong jolts during the flight.
Sources stated that the aircraft also suffered minor damage. However, the plane completed a safe landing in Delhi.
Although weather conditions appeared normal, sudden changes in wind flow created strong movements. The aircraft faced turbulence due to irregular air patterns.
Why flights experience turbulence during journeys
A flight encounters turbulence when airflow becomes unstable. Normally, aircraft fly smoothly through stable air layers.
However, irregular airflow creates sudden movements inside the aircraft. Several factors can disturb normal air movement.
The Phuket Delhi flight experienced such unexpected conditions before reaching its destination. Despite the disturbance, the aircraft completed its journey safely.
