Railways’ New AI Check To End Dirty Bedsheets And Stained Linen In AC Coaches

Indian Railways begins testing AI-based camera technology to identify stains on washed bedroll items before passengers use them.

Passengers travelling in AC coaches receive bedroll kits during their journey. These kits include bedsheets, pillows, blankets and small towels. However, stained or dirty items often create doubts among passengers. Many travellers question whether the items received proper cleaning.

Therefore, Indian Railways has started a new step to improve bedroll quality. The railway will use AI technology to provide cleaner kits.

How Will The AI Camera System Work?

Railways has started testing an AI-based camera system for washed bedroll items. The system will check bedsheets, pillow covers and other linen. After washing, the AI cameras will inspect every item carefully. They will identify whether the cloth has stains or remaining dirt. Additionally, the cameras will scan bedsheets, covers and towels completely. If they find marks, railways will wash those items again.

After proper cleaning, the railway will provide those bedroll items to passengers. This process aims to improve travel comfort.

Benefits Of AI-Based Bedroll Inspection System

The technology can help passengers receive cleaner bedroll kits during AC coach journeys. It can also remove leftover dirt through another cleaning cycle.

Moreover, railway laundry quality checks can become faster with this system. The cameras will not only check surface-level cleanliness.

Instead, the system will scan bedsheets, covers and other linen items internally. This can improve overall checking accuracy.

Where Is Railway Testing This Technology?

Currently, railways is testing this technology at selected modern railway laundries. These facilities use advanced machines for laundry operations. The trial includes North Railway’s Jaipur facility and Jodhpur division. Central Railway’s Pune division is also part of the testing process.

Furthermore, if the trial succeeds, railways may expand this system to other railway laundries.
