CM Suvendu Retains Home Ministry
In addition to the reshuffle, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari retained the home department under his control. Though party officials have yet to confirm this reshuffle officially, sources have shared the details, sparking debates in Bengal politics.
First Cabinet Meeting Decisions
During the first cabinet meeting, significant decisions were taken. Among them, the decision to transfer land for the Border Security Force (BSF) to fence the India-Bangladesh border within 45 days was made. Furthermore, the government decided to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme across the state with immediate effect.
New Law for Bengal: Indian Penal Code (IPC)
The cabinet also decided that all new cases in the state would now be registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, they decided to continue all beneficiary schemes from the previous government. Another notable decision was extending the maximum age limit for government jobs by five years.
A Fast and Aggressive Administrative Approach
These decisions mark the new government’s assertive administrative approach. Observers view these decisions as signs of the BJP’s aggressive political agenda, aiming to reshape the administration in West Bengal quickly.
Bengal’s Border Area And Census
After the cabinet meeting, CM Suvendu Adhikari also addressed Bengal’s border situation. He said the cabinet had approved the transfer of land for BSF fencing, which will help manage border issues with Bangladesh. The process must be completed within 45 days. He also criticized the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government for ignoring the census-related circular from the Ministry of Home Affairs sent to Bengal in June 2025.
