Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused PM Modi of weakening India’s education system while suppressing student voices, claiming repeated violence against youth. He stated that students require practical reforms instead of speeches or minor announcements. Consequently, Kharge reiterated three demands emphasizing justice for students affected by the NEET paper leak incident and excessive police force.
Allegations of Police Brutality
Kharge highlighted that authorities used lathis, pellet guns, and shock batons against protesting students, treating them as if they were not citizens. He urged PM Modi to step out of his air-conditioned office and witness the injuries and struggles students endured while fighting for their future. Kharge criticized the government’s approach, insisting it disrespected young citizens striving to secure their educational rights.
Three Key Demands from the Government
Kharge demanded that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resign immediately, and the government publicly apologize for violent actions against students. He also urged parliamentary discussion on the NEET paper leak, ensuring student concerns received proper attention and accountability. He emphasized that Congress would not compromise on these demands until students received justice.
Education System Under Alleged RSS Influence
Kharge asserted that the RSS dominates India’s education system, which has increased unemployment among youth. He noted the PLFS reported a 29% unemployment rate, and private sector jobs remain scarce. He further criticized contract-based recruitments, warning that the growing job scarcity threatens students’ futures. Consequently, Kharge questioned where young people could demand their rights amid declining opportunities and a compromised education system.
Context of Kharge’s Statement
This statement followed PM Modi’s announcement establishing a fast-track court to punish NEET paper leak culprits and protect students’ interests. Kharge’s critique arose amid ongoing protests and criticism regarding government accountability and handling of youth demands. He highlighted that despite PM Modi’s assurances, students faced hardships and required urgent government response.
