Asha Bhosle’s tribute aired on a Pakistani news channel sparked major controversy. Pakistan’s media regulatory authority, PEMRA, quickly issued a notice.
What Happened?
PEMRA issued a show-cause notice to Geo News for airing Indian content, violating the country’s 2018 ban. The notice asked the channel to explain why it included Indian songs and film clips while reporting on Bhosle’s death.
PEMRA’s Stand On Indian Content
Since 2018, Pakistan has prohibited broadcasting Indian content. PEMRA stated that Geo News deliberately violated the Supreme Court’s directive by airing Indian music and visuals during the tribute.
