Maharashtra Students May Get ₹2,000 Pocket Money Every Month

Maharashtra is considering monthly financial support for female students pursuing higher education, with CSR funding under discussion.

The Maharashtra government is preparing a new initiative for female students pursuing higher education. Under the proposal, eligible students could receive ₹2,000 every month as pocket money. Meanwhile, authorities are considering Corporate Social Responsibility funds for this initiative. The government wants financial constraints to stop affecting higher studies. Additionally, the support could help students manage small expenses during their education.

Chandrakant Patil shares details

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil discussed the proposal during an interaction with students. The department plans to consider monthly assistance under the existing “Earn and Learn” scheme model. Universities and major colleges are also discussing the proposal with the Higher and Technical Education Department. Patil guided students at the Mantralaya on Wednesday, August 19. He also heard concerns raised by female students during the interaction. According to Patil, the initiative could increase female participation in higher education.

CSR funding could support the initiative

Officials are also exploring CSR funding for the proposed programme. Around 12 lakh female students across Maharashtra could potentially benefit. Through this initiative, the government aims to strengthen women’s financial independence. Furthermore, authorities want to increase female participation in higher education.

However, officials have not finalised the scheme yet. The government still needs to decide its implementation process. Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ravindra Kulkarni attended the interaction. Principals and students from Khalsa College, Ruia College, and Siddharth College also participated.
