BJP demands action while TMC raises concerns
Meanwhile, BJP has also demanded action from the Election Commission regarding TMC complaints. Therefore, the political environment has become highly charged across the state. Additionally, multiple accusations continue between rival parties during the election period.
Kejriwal questions Election Commission neutrality
Reacting to the post, Kejriwal shared his views publicly. Moreover, he wrote that people no longer need proof regarding the Commission’s functioning. Additionally, he alleged that the Commission operates under BJP influence. Furthermore, he called the situation widely known and unfortunate. He also urged the Commission not to damage its institutional dignity through such language.
Election Commission issues strong message
Earlier, the Election Commission posted a firm message on social media platform X. Moreover, the Commission stated that elections in West Bengal will remain fear-free and violence-free. Additionally, it mentioned that polls will remain free from threats, inducements, raids, and booth or source jamming.
Clarification on polling agent seating rules
Previously, on Tuesday, 7 March, the State Election Commission released another statement. Moreover, it addressed reports circulating in a section of media. Additionally, those reports claimed polling agents would not receive seating inside booths. However, the Commission clarified that no new guideline has been issued. Therefore, existing rules for polling agents will continue unchanged.
Massive security deployment across the state
Furthermore, authorities have deployed extensive security forces for elections. Notably, around 2,400 paramilitary companies have been stationed across West Bengal. Additionally, the total strength stands near 2,40,000 personnel. Moreover, around 20,000 women personnel, forming nearly 200 companies, have joined deployment.
Voting schedule and results timeline
Meanwhile, polling will occur across 294 assembly seats in two phases. Additionally, the first phase will cover 152 seats on 23 April. Furthermore, the second phase will take place on 29 April for 142 seats. Finally, counting and results will be announced on 4 May.
