JPSC exam: Devendra Mahato reacts to High Court order, says ‘if government…’

Devendra Nath Mahato questioned the government’s legal response after the Jharkhand High Court paused the cancellation order

The Jharkhand High Court paused the state government’s cancellation order on August 20, 2026. The order concerned the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations and related appointments. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahato has now responded to the development.

Mahato said he respects the High Court’s order. He also expressed confidence in judicial action over the issue. According to him, students protested against paper leaks and irregularities across Jharkhand. He said these issues could damage the future of millions of students.

‘We will not tolerate betrayal’

Mahato questioned the government’s courtroom response during the proceedings. He asked why the Advocate General did not appear when the court offered the government an opportunity. Furthermore, he questioned the government lawyer’s handling of the CID investigation report.

Mahato said these developments created an impression that authorities wanted to suppress the matter. He warned that students would continue peaceful protests if the government deceived them. He also said students would oppose any attempt to suppress the issue.

On August 18, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led government cancelled 22 examinations. Authorities also ordered investigations into another 23 examinations conducted since 2014. However, the High Court later paused that government decision on Thursday.

Meanwhile, authorities announced another major decision regarding protests. The administration has prohibited demonstrations of any kind at Jaipal Singh Stadium. Officials have also imposed prohibitory orders under BNS Section 163.
