Iran continues mourning the death of its supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Meanwhile, tensions have increased around the Strait of Hormuz. Recently, two ships faced an attack in the strategic waterway. Consequently, both vessels suffered heavy damage after the incident. However, authorities reported no casualties among people onboard.
Missiles Hit Two Ships Near Strait Route
According to journalist Barak Ravid’s report, missiles struck both ships during their journey. As a result, the vessels received serious damage from the attack. Additionally, all people travelling on those ships remained safe. Furthermore, reports claimed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out the strike.
However, Iran has not released any official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, America reacted strongly and held Iran responsible for the attack. Consequently, the situation around Hormuz continues attracting global attention.
US Iran Tensions Continue After Ceasefire
Earlier, America and Iran agreed to a ceasefire after several days of conflict. Nevertheless, tensions between both countries remain unresolved. Furthermore, Iran lost Ayatollah Khamenei during American attacks.
Along with Khamenei, several other Iranian officials also died during those strikes. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently said his forces severely damaged Iran. Additionally, he stated that Iran now received time to mourn.
Khamenei Funeral Process Continues For Days
The funeral programme for Ayatollah Khamenei will continue for around five to six days. Meanwhile, authorities moved his body to Jamkaran Mosque in Iran’s Qom city.
Afterwards, Khamenei’s mortal remains will travel to Iraq. Finally, authorities will bury his body in his hometown Mashhad on 9 July.
