After India’s win over Zimbabwe in Chennai on February 27, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube chose not to rest. Instead, they decided to practice their bowling right after the match. This decision impressed Sunil Gavaskar and Varun Aaron, who praised their commitment to improving before the crucial match against the West Indies.
India’s Dominance in Batting but Bowling Gaps
India’s batting was outstanding in the match at Chepauk. They scored 256 for four in 20 overs. However, their bowling fell short. Zimbabwe fought hard, reaching 184 for six. Hardik Pandya bowled three overs, conceding 21 runs and failing to take a wicket. Meanwhile, Dube went for 46 runs in two overs and took just one wicket.
Dube also conceded two no-balls and four wides during his spell.
Hardik and Dube Show Determination
After being named Player of the Match, Hardik Pandya mentioned that he would go back to bowling to stay prepared for the next match. Speaking to broadcasters, Sunil Gavaskar highlighted that both players could have rested. Instead, they chose to work on their bowling, which was a commendable act of dedication.
Gavaskar noted, “In this game, bowling is what you needed to learn from.” He added that most players usually relax after a match, but Hardik and Dube showed extraordinary commitment.
“They’re not sitting on the 72-run victory,” Gavaskar said. “They want to improve, and that’s a great sign.”
🚨Look at the work ethic of Hardik Pandya. He scored 50, bowled 3 overs with an economy of 7, won POTM against Zim — and still did bowling practice after the game.

Focus on Improvement
While discussing the match, Gavaskar also mentioned Suryakumar’s thoughts about the bowlers’ performance. He observed that Hardik and Dube were still working on their bowling after the game. “What one saw was Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube still bowling with Morne Morkel,” Gavaskar said.
“They want to get better, and that’s a great sign.”
Hardik’s Disappointment with His Performance
At the post-match presentation, it was clear that Hardik Pandya wasn’t completely satisfied with his bowling. Varun Aaron echoed this sentiment, noting Hardik’s dedication.
Aaron explained, “Hardik was disappointed with his bowling today, but he’s working on deliveries for future games.” He emphasized that Hardik, despite his 50-run performance as an all-rounder, continued to practice.
Aaron further pointed out, “Even after a World Cup game, when most players want to rest, Hardik isn’t doing that.” Aaron sees this as a clear indication of India’s determination to win the World Cup.
The Path Ahead: India vs West Indies
