A severe storm caused a part of a bridge under construction to collapse in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh. Consequently, six workers died under the debris. Moreover, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to grieving families. Furthermore, he instructed senior officials to reach the site immediately and expedite rescue operations.
Relief and Rescue Operations Intensified
CM Yogi directed the district administration and SDRF to accelerate relief and rescue work. Additionally, he instructed officials to maintain communication with victims’ families and provide every possible assistance. In a social media post, the Chief Minister expressed grief over the loss and prayed for the departed souls. He also wished speedy recovery for injured workers.
Bridge Collapse Details
According to ASP Arvind Kumar Verma, police received information around 2 am on 28-29 May that a slab connecting Morakandar and Kurara’s Mawaijar collapsed. Immediately, local police and rescue teams rushed to the site. Moreover, three workers remained trapped on a pillar, prompting continuous efforts by SDRF and local teams to save them. Six workers were reportedly buried under debris, with five identified so far.
Victims and Construction Context
The deceased included laborers from Banda and Hamirpur districts. Furthermore, the bridge under construction over the Betwa river was initiated through efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Baburam Nishad. Local teams and SDRF continued operations to clear debris and rescue remaining workers.
