The Supreme Court declined to stop the Cockroach Janata Party’s proposed march in Delhi. CJP plans to hold the march on September 5. The petition sought a stay until after the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13. However, the court found no concrete reason indicating any imminent untoward incident.
Chief Justice Suryakant said authorities should maintain law and order. He also stressed peaceful, responsible and lawful conduct from every side. Meanwhile, the petitioner again warned about a possible untoward situation. The court refused immediate intervention and directed the petitioner towards the central government.
Petitioner Asked To Approach Central Government
The Supreme Court asked the petitioner to present the matter before the central government. It also directed the petitioner to provide the petition’s copy to the Solicitor General. The court scheduled this petition alongside the main case for September 10.
A retired police officer filed the petition. Advocate Syed Rizwan appeared for the petitioner during the hearing.
Why Is CJP Planning The March?
Abhijit Dipke’s CJP has accused the central government of failing to honour its promises. On August 24, the party criticised delays over commitments made to young people on July 25. CJP especially highlighted promises concerning FIR withdrawals against students and protesters.
CJP Announces Peaceful Youth March
The party cited repeated delays and evasions over government assurances. Consequently, CJP’s national working committee decided to restart its peaceful mobilisation campaign. The party plans a youth march across New Delhi on September 5.
CJP said participants will march from India Gate towards Delhi Police Headquarters. The party described the proposed demonstration as peaceful. It linked the action to its demand for fulfilment of earlier commitments.
