Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will hold a bilateral meeting today in France during the G7 summit.
This marks their first meeting after a gap of 16 months, raising global attention on the agenda.
Both leaders are expected to discuss Iran conflict, India–US trade deal, energy security and artificial intelligence.
High-Level Engagement at G7 Working Lunch
Earlier, both leaders attended G7 outreach sessions along with global partners and financial institutions.
The session focused on “building new partnerships and restoring international unity” among participating nations.
Additionally, representatives from G7 countries, partner nations, the World Bank and African Development Bank participated in discussions.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that the meeting would take place during a working lunch.
This lunch includes G7 leaders, outreach partners and top officials from the technology sector.
Modi’s First Reactions and Global Engagement
Upon arrival in Evian, Prime Minister Modi expressed enthusiasm about engaging with world leaders.
He said he looks forward to discussing key global issues with international counterparts. Furthermore, he emphasized India’s commitment to building a more sustainable and prosperous global order.
In a post on X, Modi confirmed his arrival at the G7 summit in France.
He added that he remains eager to engage in meaningful discussions with global leaders.
India’s Expanding Role in G7 Dialogue
India has been invited as a partner country to the 52nd G7 summit held from 15 to 17 June. During the summit, Modi will address issues related to India and the Global South. This marks India’s 13th participation in G7 and Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance.
Additionally, outreach sessions on 16 and 17 June will include invited global leaders.
These discussions will focus on strengthening international partnerships and inclusive development.
They will also highlight responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence.
India’s Global Position in Focus
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India’s participation reflects growing global recognition.
It highlighted India’s role in addressing challenges linked to peace, security and environmental stability.
