Delhi endures scorching temperatures, with intense sun and hot winds making life difficult. A report shows 75% of the city faces heat stress. Lutyens Delhi, Delhi Cantt, and Civil Lines remain relatively cooler.
Densely Populated and Industrial Areas Vulnerable
According to CSE, dense residential colonies, unplanned neighborhoods, and industrial areas are highly sensitive to extreme heat. These areas lack greenery and water bodies, amplifying heat stress.
Specific Wards Facing Maximum Heat
Concrete buildings and asphalt roads absorb sunlight, turning neighborhoods into heat traps. Wards including Budh Vihar, Kirari, Suleman Nagar, Prem Nagar, Said-ul-Ajab, Karawal Nagar West, Mahavir Enclave, Neelothi, Shiv Vihar, Pratap Vihar, and Mustafabad experience over 90% heat stress.
Temperature Trends and Green Cover Decline
Data shows 98% of Delhi recorded temperatures above 45°C at least once. Over the last six years, 75.78% of the city consistently suffered heat stress. Satellite analysis reveals declining green cover and water bodies.
Areas With Partial Relief
Greener areas like Lutyens Delhi, Cantonment, and Civil Lines show lower heat stress. Planned layouts with dense trees reduce temperature. Model Town, Rohini, Vasant Vihar, Hauz Khas, and Mayur Vihar also experience relatively lower heat stress.
