Tejas Mark-1A Delivery Near? HAL-Air Force Meet May Decide Big Move

Key April meeting between HAL and Indian Air Force may finalise delivery timeline for Tejas Mark-1A amid long wait and operational needs.

Indian Air Force has waited long for Tejas Mark-1A, while expectations now rise for a major update by late April. Moreover, defence sources indicated that an important meeting between Indian Air Force and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will take place soon.

HAL-Air Force Meeting and Delivery Timeline

During this meeting, officials will review Tejas Mark-1A progress and discuss essential operational requirements carefully. Furthermore, sources said that if HAL meets all required conditions, authorities may finalise delivery dates soon.

However, if any gaps remain, then delivery may face further delays. Therefore, this meeting holds significant importance for the entire programme timeline.

ASQR Standards and Readiness Check

Before induction, Tejas must meet strict Air Staff Quality Requirement standards set by the Air Force. Additionally, these benchmarks will determine whether the aircraft stands fully ready for operational deployment.

Testing and Inspection Process

After factory rollout, Air Force teams will inspect each aircraft thoroughly before acceptance. Meanwhile, test pilots will conduct flights to evaluate performance under operational conditions.

Subsequently, teams will prepare a detailed report based on these checks and observations. If officials identify any issue, HAL must resolve it before final handover to the Air Force.

Reason Behind Delay in Tejas Programme

The major reason behind delays in this programme relates to engine supply challenges. Notably, HAL signed a deal with General Electric in 2021 for 99 F404 engines required for Tejas Mark-1A.

Now, engine deliveries have started gradually, while this development may accelerate overall project progress.

Importance of Tejas for Air Force Strength

Indian Air Force requires 42 fighter squadrons, while currently it operates only 29 squadrons. Therefore, Tejas aircraft will play a crucial role in bridging this gap effectively.

Additionally, the Air Force has already inducted 38 out of 40 Tejas Mark-1 aircraft. Meanwhile, HAL received an order to deliver 83 Tejas Mark-1A jets.

Furthermore, another deal for 97 additional Tejas Mark-1A aircraft has also been finalised. Consequently, these aircraft will help form 9 new squadrons in the coming years.

What Happens Next

Now, attention remains focused on the upcoming HAL and Air Force meeting outcome closely. Therefore, if all requirements align successfully, Tejas Mark-1A delivery may begin soon, strengthening Air Force capabilities significantly.
