The Delhi High Court has provided significant relief to Hardeep Singh Puri’s daughter, Himayani Puri. The court issued an immediate order to remove defamatory content linked to the Epstein files. The content in question had allegedly linked her to controversial accusations, severely damaging her reputation.

Court Directs Social Media Platforms to Act

The court ordered platforms like Google, Meta, and LinkedIn to remove the offensive content within 24 hours. The single bench of the court stated that prima facie, the case involved defamation. If the content remained online, the petitioner would suffer irreversible harm.

Defamation Allegations and Legal Action

Himayani Puri’s defamation petition argued that the accusations against her, related to Jeffrey Epstein, were baseless. These false associations were damaging her reputation. She sought a compensation of ₹10 crore along with the removal of the content from all online platforms.

Court’s Decision on Defamation and Media Responsibility

During the hearing, her lawyer emphasized the need for fair reporting. The lawyer stressed that, without evidence, harming someone’s reputation was defamation. The court clarified that it was not responsible for investigating the accusations but was protecting the petitioner’s reputation with interim relief.

Court’s Order to Remove Content

The court directed the concerned platforms to remove any content linking Himayani Puri to the Epstein files within 24 hours. The content had caused widespread misinformation following the release of Epstein-related documents. The court also emphasized that such material should not be posted in the future.

This case emerged after the public release of certain Epstein files, leading to rumors and false connections circulating on social media. Himayani Puri’s petition requested the removal of these false claims and urged that such content be blocked from future dissemination
