Delhi : Delhi Police arrested Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib. Authorities linked the action to the shirtless protest during the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam last week. Officers detained him around 4:30 am and later confirmed formal arrest. Sources indicated that police may soon present him before a court.
Interrogation and Remand Plan
Earlier, investigators summoned Uday Bhanu Chib to Tilak Marg police station for questioning. After prolonged interrogation, officials proceeded with custody. According to police, he possessed crucial information regarding the demonstration or played a central role in planning it. Officers alleged that he did not cooperate during questioning. They claimed he either denied most queries or attempted to mislead investigators. Sources stated that authorities gathered sufficient evidence before taking action. Now, police will produce him before a judge and seek remand to examine his alleged involvement further.
Eight Arrested in Shirtless Protest Case
The controversy erupted when IYC workers staged a shirtless protest during the AI Summit. Demonstrators raised slogans over government policies and AI-related issues. Additionally, they created disruption at the venue. Police registered a case under charges including disturbing public peace. So far, officers have arrested eight individuals in connection with the incident, including Uday Bhanu Chib. Authorities conducted overnight questioning and alleged that he did not extend full cooperation.
Congress Reacts to Arrest
Congress MP Shashikant Senthil reacted strongly to the development. He said youth protested because government responses on unemployment and paper leaks remained absent. He added that even Members of Parliament failed to receive answers on these concerns. According to him, young participants felt no hope from the Prime Minister. He described the action as a small protest compared to the scale of unemployment affecting millions. Furthermore, he praised Youth Congress members for showing courage despite knowing the political environment.
Police Suspect Larger Conspiracy
Delhi Police have not issued an official statement yet. However, sources suggested that investigators suspect a larger conspiracy. Officers believe that organisers planned the protest in a coordinated manner and that senior Youth Congress leaders may have participated. Authorities kept Uday Bhanu Chib at Tilak Marg police station before confirming arrest.
