The capital city has been shaken by a gut wrenching crime in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura, where a six‑year‑old girl was allegedly gang‑raped by three boys aged 10, 13 and 14 on January 18, police said. Two of the boys have been arrested and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, while the third accused and his family remain untraced, sparking outrage and urgent calls for justice.
According to the victim’s distraught family, the girl had returned home around 7 pm bleeding heavily and in pain, initially telling her parents she had simply fallen. Her 13 year old neighbour later identified as one of the accused backed up the same claim. But after persistent questioning, the child confessed that the boys, known to the family, had lured her with promises of chowmein, taken her to an empty nearby two‑storey building, tied her hands, gagged her mouth, and assaulted her before threatening her into silence.

Her father had only just dropped her off at the lane entrance after buying candy when the horrific incident unfolded. Alarmed by her condition, the family rushed her first to Jafrabad police station and then to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where medical reports noted she was “unable to walk” and bleeding heavily, with further tests, including for HIV, advised. The girl is now stable and recovering at home under careful care, but the trauma persists.
Delhi Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and are intensifying the search for the third alleged perpetrator, believed to have fled with his family. Forensic teams have also collected evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing probe.
The incident has triggered widespread anger among residents and activists, with local protests demanding the swift arrest of the absconding accused and stern action under the law. Many have criticised systemic lapses and called for stronger measures to safeguard children in urban neighbourhoods.
This harrowing case has reignited urgent discussions on child safety, accountability, and the need for robust community protections a stark reminder that ensuring the security of the most vulnerable must remain a top priority for authorities, institutions, and society alike.
