The Punjab Congress leadership dispute has intensified after the party high command decided to continue Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as state president. Charanjit Singh Channi has opposed this decision and demanded Warring’s removal from the post. Amid the internal disagreement, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel will meet Channi to discuss the situation.
Baghel on Thursday, July 9, expressed confidence in Congress’ prospects for the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. Despite dissatisfaction among Channi’s supporters over Warring’s continuation, Baghel said the process of meeting senior leaders and workers will continue. He added that he will meet every important party member as part of his responsibility.
Bhupesh Baghel To Meet Channi Amid Party Tensions
Party sources said Baghel and Channi may hold a meeting on Friday, July 10. A leader told IANS that Raja Warring will not attend this discussion. The high command kept Warring as state president and gave Channi the responsibility of leading the campaign committee.
After meeting leaders and workers, Baghel said Congress members showed strong enthusiasm and energy. He explained that meeting every leader remains necessary because it helps understand different views within the organisation. He also said Congress believes in discussions and open opinions among leaders.
Baghel Defends Congress Unity Before Punjab Elections
Baghel stated that Congress remains united with its mission and goals in Punjab. He said leaders sharing their views openly reflects the party’s unique working style. Unlike other parties, he claimed Congress does not follow one-way communication or strict orders.
Furthermore, Baghel said Congress respects the experience and contribution of every leader. He added that the party recognises and rewards senior leaders at the right time.
Congress Predicts Victory Against AAP Government
Baghel predicted that Congress could achieve an easy victory in the upcoming Punjab elections. He claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party government has completely failed and people want change soon.
He also criticised BJP’s claims and said the party has limited ground presence in Punjab. According to Baghel, BJP leaders know this reality and are making statements only to keep their workers united before elections.
Baghel had earlier made it clear that Amarinder Singh Raja Warring would continue as Punjab Congress president. The party now continues discussions with leaders while preparing for the upcoming electoral battle.
