The Nepal flood disaster has left 288 Indians missing. Rescue operations continue to locate affected citizens.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the latest update on Thursday, August 27. He confirmed that 21 Indians have been rescued so far.
Indians Stranded In Nepal And China Await Help
Randhir Jaiswal said several Indians travelling for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra remain stranded. These citizens are currently on the China side.
Around 200 Indian citizens have requested assistance. India’s mission in China is coordinating their rescue with local authorities.
People from Isha Foundation are also among those stranded. The ministry continues efforts to provide assistance.
Jaiswal explained that five major groups include the missing 288 Indians. The first group has 73 people working at Trishuli-1 Power Project.
Additionally, two separate groups from Tamil Nadu include 37 and 49 citizens. These groups travelled for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Samrat and Fly Everest Travels.
A group of 32 Indian citizens from West Bengal travelled through Samrat Travels. They were present in Timure, located in Nepal’s Rasuwa district.
Furthermore, another group includes 61 Indians from different states. A separate group includes 33 citizens from Kerala.
India Sends Relief Material Through Two Aircraft
India sent humanitarian assistance to Nepal through two aircraft. The relief support includes 10 tonnes of essential materials.
The second aircraft departed on Thursday morning with 37.5 tonnes of relief supplies. It also carried 8 tonnes of medicines.
Randhir Jaiswal said India sent assistance after Nepal requested support. The country continues helping rescue and relief operations.
India is also preparing Bailey bridges to assist rescue work. The External Affairs Ministry created a control room for continuous support.
The control room will operate throughout the day. Details about helplines and contact numbers will appear on the ministry’s X handle.
Embassies Coordinate Assistance For Citizens
Indian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing started 24/7 helplines. These facilities will assist citizens during the crisis.
Meanwhile, India remains connected with state governments. These states sent people for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
The ministry is coordinating with states through the Home Ministry. Rescue teams continue efforts to bring stranded citizens back safely.
