US Ambassador Sergio Gor made a claim about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump’s G-7 meeting. He said India requested no questions before their interaction.
The claim reportedly relates to a 45-minute press conference after the meeting. However, government sources responded to the remarks and shared India’s position.
According to government sources, Indian representatives remain cautious about Trump’s unpredictable behaviour during meetings.
They highlighted similar situations during Trump’s interactions with South African and Ukrainian presidents. Therefore, India continues following a careful approach during such engagements.
What did Sergio Gor claim about the press conference?
Sergio Gor claimed the External Affairs Ministry requested no questions after Modi and Trump’s meeting. He added that Trump later forgot about the request.
Speaking at the ET World Leaders Forum, Gor described Trump’s usual approach after meetings. He said Trump often looks towards cameras and asks whether anyone has questions.
Gor explained that he and Trump stayed behind the stage after the discussion. At one point, only both of them remained there.
He said Trump asked about issues India might raise during the meeting. They discussed several topics before the interaction.
Gor claimed Trump also asked about any specific demands from the Indian side. He said the ministry requested limited media interaction without a full press conference.
According to Gor, he informed Trump that India did not want questions. Trump reportedly agreed with the request.
