Akhilesh Condemns Alleged Attack on Mamata Banerjee, Questions Government’s Role

Akhilesh Yadav condemned the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee’s convoy and said governments must ensure security for elected leaders.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has reacted to the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee’s convoy. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister strongly condemned the incident involving the Trinamool Congress chief. He called such an episode deeply distressing within a democracy. Moreover, Akhilesh described Mamata as a senior politician who previously served as West Bengal’s chief minister.

He said the treatment witnessed during the incident deserved condemnation. Furthermore, Akhilesh questioned whether the government had any role behind what happened. He said such involvement, if proven, would make the episode extremely condemnable. Governments keep changing, he added, but nobody should insult a former elected chief minister. He also noted that Mamata did not lose the election by a huge margin.

Akhilesh further claimed she might not have lost without the deployment of central forces. Therefore, he demanded proper protection for the former chief minister. He also said ensuring her security remains the government’s responsibility.

Akhilesh Targets Centre Over FCRA, Mamata Blames BJP

Meanwhile, Akhilesh attacked the central government over FCRA. He asked authorities to disclose how much money leaves India. According to him, restrictions apply when foreign funds enter India. However, he claimed no such restriction stops Indian money from leaving the country. Akhilesh also said wealthy people gained “good days” after the BJP came to power. He alleged that FCRA only targets minorities and sends them a message. Furthermore, he again questioned how much Indian money had moved abroad.

The alleged convoy incident occurred on August 9 in Halisahar, West Bengal. Mamata had gone there to meet a TMC worker’s family. The reference states that the worker allegedly died in police custody. However, the former chief minister faced strong protests during her visit. Local residents stopped her vehicle on the road, while demonstrations continued throughout the halt. Protesters smeared mud on her car, threw footwear and used abusive language.

However, Mamata blamed the BJP rather than local villagers for the entire episode. She alleged that BJP “goons” orchestrated the incident instead of residents. Meanwhile, the BJP rejected Mamata Banerjee’s allegations. The party also condemned the incident involving the former chief minister.
